Welcome Visitor Program and Visitor Information Centre

Fort Nelson epitomizes the small town community spirit and legendary hospitality of the North, both through its everyday welcome to you, and through its much appreciated "Welcome Visitor Program." Let Fort Nelson’s citizens receive you in their own unique way, introducing you to the community and its heritage through a series of volunteer speakers several evenings a week throughout the summer.

The Welcome Visitor Program is in its 18th year of operation (summer of 2002) and has served thousands of visitors from around the world. It is a unique "welcome to our town" presentation offered to Summer visitors. It begins with a brief overview of the town and region and a slide presentation that captures the amenities and scenic beauty of the area. Volunteers serve as MC or host, or as a guest speaker offering insights into specific facets of the region - history, trapping, outdoor adventure, and any other topic of interest.

Also of note, Fort Nelson has a fully staffed Visitor Information Centre which is conveniently located in the recreation centre at the north end of town on the Alaska Highway. It is open from June through the end of August to help answer any question you may have.
