3500-01 - VANDALISM TO TOWN/REGIONAL DISTRICT OWNED PROPERTIES
Background
Damages and expenses related to vandalism have always been a problem in Fort Nelson. In 1992 and in 1995, a noticeable increase in the incidents of vandalism with resultant increases in costs related to this problem were noted. At the request of the Board, the Director of Operations prepared a detailed report on recent incidents and related costs due to vandalism and the Council/Board expressed the opinion that if the citizens of the Town/Regional District were made aware of the costs to tax payers due to acts of vandalism, more offenders would be apprehended and the public would become more involved in preventative measures. To this end, the following resolution/policy decision was made.
Policy/Objective
that the Director of Operations create and place ads in the Fort Nelson News on a quarterly basis detailing losses due to vandalism and requesting citizens to contact the RCMP if they note any vandalism taking place.

Department Heads will ensure that all reports of vandalism to Town/Regional property and equipment are included in their monthly reports to Council. The Director of Operations will then compile all reports on vandalism to Town/Regional property and equipment and place an advertisement in the Fort Nelson News on a quarterly basis to advise the residents of Fort Nelson exactly what these acts of vandalism are costing them as taxpayers.
