FORT NELSON-LIARD REGIONAL DISTRICT
POLICIES AND PROCEDURE MANUAL
Background
The Specified Fire Protection District Boundaries were established in 1972. The taxpayers within these boundaries voted to pay taxes in order to have this Fire Protection while some areas not currently inside the boundaries voted not to pay taxes for fire protection. The taxes collected within these boundaries have purchased the present equipment and pays the operating costs of the Fire Department. Due to the legal repercussions of responding taxpayer's equipment to fires outside the taxpayer's boundaries and the liabilities which could occur, the following policy is to be followed.
Policy/Objective
The Fire Department will not respond to fires outside the Protection Boundaries except in a life threatening situation. The Fire Chief is authorized to determine the appropriate action for such calls.
Implementation
The minimum response to life threatening fires outside the Protection Boundaries shall be Engine 1 and 3 Firefighters.
