POLICY & PROCEDURE MANUAL
Background
On occasion, trees on the boulevards or in the parks have been damaged by weather conditions or vandalism and may cause a hazard to residents of Fort Nelson or . Given that there are no bylaws (as per Section 708(1) and 711(1) of the Municipal Act) currently in place to allow the removal of damaged branches, limbs or trees on public property, this policy is put in place to authorize the removal of hazardous trees.
Policy/Objective
It is the intention of this policy to prevent possible injury of persons or damage to property by having all broken or damaged branches, limbs or trees located on boulevards and parks removed as soon as possible after they have been identified.
Implementation
When a tree, hedge, scrub or bush, located on boulevards or in parks has been identified as a hazard to the safety of persons, likely to cause damage to property or seriously inconveniencing the public, Recreation Department or Public Works personnel are authorized to trim, remove or cut down a tree, hedge, scrub or bush immediately, without further authorization from Council.
All other requests for the removal of trees, hedges, scrubs or bushes located on public property will be referred to the Council for their authorization to remove.
