MAYOR / CHAIR HARRY CLARKE
Mayor
Harry Clarke has resided in Fort Nelson since 1960; he and his wife, Darlene,
have raised six children in the community. Harry was the first Mayor of Fort
Nelson, appointed by the then-Minister of Municipal Affairs Dan Campbell in 1969
-- who subsequently incorporated the Village of Fort Nelson from water
improvement district status in 1971. Mayor Clarke served the improvement
district for two years, and was thereafter elected as Mayor for two years
(1971 & 1972). After a long absence from local government politics, Harry
was re-elected as Mayor in 1999 during a by-election, and was elected again
later that year in the general local election.
With vision and a love for the Northern Rockies area, Mayor Clarke and his family have always been very energetic entrepreneurs; they were involved with a furniture & appliance store in the community and currently own Northwest Plumbing & Heating, Superior Propane, Northern Drycleaners, Northern Visions Health Food and Springtime Garden Centre. Many of Harry & Darlene’s children are involved in operation of the businesses, and all are now successful young adults with families of their own.
Mayor Clarke is also active in other community affairs, as a regular church member, a Rotary Club member, and as a ‘Shriner’, and is interested in all sports.
In 2002, the Mayor sits on the following Town/Regional District Committees and Boards:
Emergency Program Executive Committee
(Chair)
Personnel Committee (Chair)
2004/2004 Event Steering Committee (Member)
Single Tier Government Committee (Chair)
Agriculture Policy Committee (Ad Hoc Member)
Harry also represents the Northern Rockies
Regional District on the North Central Municipal Association Executive.

motto and he can be reached at (250) 774-4446 (work) or (250) 774-3265 (home),
