Fort Nelson has been awarded the title of British Columbia's Forest Capital for 2006. This honour celebrates the economic, cultural, natural and historic contributions of forests to Fort Nelson.

Each year, one community is selected as the Forest Capital of BC and holds the title for the whole year. As the 2006 winner, Fort Nelson gets to care for a trophy during its reign and will also receive an engraved wooden plaque to commemorate the award.

This award was established by the BC Forestry Association in the 1980's. Today, the Association of BC Forest Professionals has the privilege of selecting the winning community each year.
