& CORPORATE SERVICES HISTORY
The
Role of the Chief Administrative Officer
The general
administration function involves the management
of the Town, Regional District, and Regional Hospital
District and general supervision & direction
of all Departments and staff - subject to the
policy, direction and priority-setting of the
Council & Board.
Under the
direction of the Council/Board, the Chief Administrative
Officer, or Administrator, is responsible for
the execution and administration of their decisions
& policies and for furthering goals, objectives,
and priorities.
Among numerous
responsibilities, the Administrator is also responsible
for ensuring coordination & cooperation between
Provincial government departments & agencies,
and other levels of government.
Corporate
Services
The Corporate Service's Department
acts as a central information centre for the Town/Regional
District. The control, preparation, and distribution
of information is a large part of the role this
department plays. Corporate Services serves as
a communication link between the public and its
municipal government, providing citizen access
to information which is considered vital to their
participation in the democratic process. The department
is responsible for preserving such information
as the community's documented history insofar
as local government in involved.
Other responsibilities and functions
of Corporate Services and specifically the Corporate
Manager, include
- preparation & preservation of agendas
and minutes;
- responsibility for the preparation and certifcation
of all bylaws;
- responsibility for the adherence to all regulations
of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act,
- the provision of clerical support to Council/Board
and their committees;
- clerical or other services for most other
Departments;
- pulic relations;
- elections; by-elections and referenda;
- advertising and event coordination;
- organizational purchasing,
- records management;
- Town Square use and maintenance coordination.
